Juan Alfaro Design is a full-service fabrication workshop primarily focused on the luxury architectural design market and gallery and museum-caliber sculptural artwork. With a team comprised of master artisans and a drafting office that employs the latest 3D software, JAD can tackle any big or small project. From a custom water jet cut and machined pivot hinges to a complete gut renovation package including staircases and structural engineered scopes of work, JAD can fabricate and install the most challenging project in the New York, nationwide, and international markets. 

BESPOKE FINISHES

Over the last 20 years, Juan Alfaro has created a one of a kind repertoire of metal finishes. From polished black nickel to pewter, mottled black patinas, myriad shades of light and antique bronze to space-age ceramic coatings and baked on hardened automotive-quality finishes, any specification is possible by our master finishers.

REFINISHING AND MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS

Many JAD clients have reached out for a maintenance service on the fine finishes they purchased from JAD over the years. Even though JAD guarantees all work and finishes for one year from delivery and installation, time and the word takes a toll on any surface. Some clients enjoy a yearly touch up, while others come back five even ten years later for a refresh. Whatever your need, JAD will work with you or your organization to upkeep your investment indefinitely. The service includes surface refinishing, repair or replacement of existing work, retrofitting a new scope onto existing work, and consulting with on-site maintenance staff on products and daily upkeep methods.

PRODUCTION HARDWARE REFINISHING

Production houses often have a limited repertoire of finishes, whereas architects and designers seek more bespoke finishes for their custom design work. JAD can take virtually any piece of production run hardware and achieve a custom, consistent, and lasting finish to fit any specification. From polished black nickel to weathered antique bronze and beyond, practically any finish is possible in JAD master finishers' hands. 

WATERJET CUTTING

Our 6’x12’ OMAX80 machining center offers our clients the latest CNC waterjet service at the most competitive level pricing on the East coast. With its 5 axis cutting head, the machine can cut at up to 60 degrees angle while continuously changing pitch and direction based on our file preparation for the cut part (s). 

The OMA80 machine can cut through up to 8” of solid steel utilizing a 60,000 psi stream of water and cutting media (garnet). By manipulating the cutting speed and flow of cutting media, we can create cuts with super fine edge qualities. Unlike plasma and laser cutting, water jet cutting does not cause the material to deflect due to high heat applied to the parts. There are no heat-affected zones with water jet cutting, so areas that need to be further machined maintain the original raw material's properties. 

IN HOUSE FILE PREPARATION

JAD does all file preparation in house and provides clients with proof files to approve before any cutting. This best practice tenet ensures that the client is getting exactly what they expect with machining level precision. 

BASE MATERIAL

The OMAX80 machine cuts not only any metal (steel, stainless steel, bronze, brass, aluminum, titanium, nickel…) but also glass, ceramic tile, stone, and even hardwoods like Ipe.

Founder of Juan Alfaro Design, Juan Alfaro, a lifelong creative and builder, graduated from the legendary and prestigious Hunter College Master of Fine Arts program in New York City. Through his practice as an exhibiting artist in Europe and New York and later design developing and executing large sculptural works, Juan Alfaro and the JAD team understand and translate artistic intention into finished exhibition level work for world-renowned artists.
